Institutional representatives, academics, students and partner companies highlight the impact of dual education on employability and regional innovation
The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) has held the ceremony of delivery of diplomas to the graduates of the Master in Electronics and Applied Digital Technology, a dual-styning program pioneering the ULPGC, designed to respond to the growing demand for specialized profiles in the technology and microelectronics sector. The event was presided over by the Vice-Rector of Transfer, Innovation and Scientific Dissemination of the ULPGC, Sebastián López.
The Director del Instituto Universitario de Microelectrónica Aplicada (IUMA), Aurelio Vega, highlighted the technical solvency and scientific rigor of the training provided, being a unique master's degree regarding its offer at the national level. He indicated that from IUMA we continue to bet on training professionals capable of providing talent to companies in the sector in the areas of microelectronic design and digital technologies applied from the first day.
Academic vision and experience of students
The event included the presentation of the Master’s lecturer, Dr. Pedro Pérez Carballo, who praised the quality of the education received and the teaching staff's efforts to provide cutting-edge training, offering close support and putting students at the heart of their own learning. He emphasized the applied vision of the studies, starting from imagination, design, and the creation of tangible products. He highlighted the impact of designed technology on people's lives, stressing the necessity to make decisions guided by ethical values and the utmost respect for others. He also praised the capacity acquired by students to participate in projects of major strategic importance for Canarian society, as well as their decision-making criteria and leadership skills as part of company development teams "to build the future bit by bit".
En Speaking on behalf of the students, Miguel Quevedo expressed his gratitude to ULPGC in general and to IUMA in particular for launching a master's degree of this calibre, which enabled both academic and workplace training by integrating students into"real working environments." He also thanked the lecturers for their dedicated teaching and his fellow students for their collective effort.
Key partnership with the business sector
The dual model of this postgraduate degree is built upon close collaboration with companies in the technology and industrial sectors. Specifically, Celestia TST, Aerolaser and Arquimea—all leading tech companies based in the Canary Islands—supported the dual training programme with successful outcomes. All companies highlighted the maturity demonstrated by the students when undertaking their work assignments and the results achieved throughout the programme. They also emphasized the importance of these strategic alliances in attracting and recruiting specialized technical talent.
The Vice-Rector of Transfer, Innovation and Scientific Dissemination of the ULPGC, Sebastián López took the floor to praise IUMA’s efforts in building the necessary ecosystem—combining doctoral staff and material resources acquired through various public calls—to enable ULPGC to offer a master's programme of this calibre during this academic year. He acknowledged the students' words of gratitude for providing this master's degree to Canarian society and concluded by encouraging them to be excellent professionals and, above all, good people.
The event concluded with the formal presentation of diplomas and a group photograph featuring academic authorities, teaching staff, students, and corporate representatives.
