Presentation

The Quality assurance systems emerged within the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), as a response to the need for transparency towards society and as a means of pursuing excellence in the education provided by Higher Education Institutions. In this regard, the Institute for Applied Microelectronics (IUMA), as a research and teaching institute of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), assumes this responsibility and develops its own Quality Management System (QMS).

Considering the above, it is deemed necessary to implement a QMS within IUMA, whose main objective is to promote the continuous improvement of the official degree programmes delivered by the Institute, ensuring their quality and facilitating both their accreditation and subsequent maintenance.

To this end, the IUMA Executive Committee established the Quality Management Committee (QMC) on 21 January 2010, which is responsible for the development of the Institute’s Quality Management System.

As a result of the work carried out by the QMC, on 22 November 2010 a document entitled Quality Assurance System of the Institute for Applied Microelectronics (Revision 01) was submitted, whose design was positively certified by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) in January 2011, in accordance with the standards and guidelines established within the AUDIT Programme. You can view the certificate via the link.

The 14 April 2026, the latest version of the Quality Management System (Edition 03) (uncontrolled copy) was approved by the Institute’s Executive Committee.

Structure

The Quality Management System (QMS) is structured around a QMS Manual, composed of several chapters and complemented by a series of documented procedures. Its purpose is to implement a set of coordinated actions through management and teaching evaluation processes that make it possible to collect and analyse information on the development and outcomes of academic programmes. In turn, this information is used to review and improve the processes that constitute the educational programmes, with the participation of all stakeholders and in accordance with the available resources.

Furthermore, the QMS must be regarded as a living system, allowing for continuous improvement and updating, and capable of being reviewed and adapted whenever circumstances so require.

The QMS of the Institute, approved by the Executive Committee on 14 April 2026, consists of the following documents:
