On Sunday 5 July 2026, the newspaper Canarias7 published an in-depth article on the European STRATUM project, led by IUMA. To find out the details first-hand, the journalist responsible for the story visited our premises in person at the IUMA building in the ULPGC Science and Technology Park.

During her visit, she was able to tour the laboratories involved in the project and interview some of the research team in person. The article highlights how STRATUM aims to revolutionise brain tumour surgery through the use of hyperspectral imaging in the operating theatre, featuring statements from Professor Gustavo Marrero Callicó (the project’s general coordinator), neurosurgeon Juan Francisco Piñeiro Martí and research engineer Carlos Vega.

In addition to the text, the publication includes a short explanatory video. This clip provides an overview of STRATUM presented by Gustavo Marrero and Juan Francisco Piñeiro Martí, detailing how the technology works and the day-to-day work in the laboratories.
