IUMA present at the investiture ceremony of new ULPGC PhDs
On February 15, in a solemn ceremony held at the Paraninfo, the ULPGC conferred 65 new doctors, who read their theses in the 2023/2024 academic year: 36 defended by women and 29 by men, corresponding to the areas of Health Sciences (27), Sciences, Social and Legal Sciences (5), Arts and Humanities (13), Sciences (10) and Engineering and Architecture (10).

IUMA researcher Raquel León Martín has received the ULPGC PhD award in the area of Engineering and Architecture for her work and academic excellence as a young researcher, demonstrating a significant impact on the research developed in the field of disease identification using hyperspectral imaging. Raquel León Martín defended her doctoral thesis on June 18, 2024 entitled Contributions to the Development of Hyperspectral Imaging Instrumentation and Algorithms for Medical Applications Targeting Real-time PerformancesThis research addresses the use of hyperspectral imaging as a diagnostic tool in different medical applications.

At the ceremony, the medal of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was awarded to Professor Emeritus and founder of the IUMA Antonio Núñez. The award highlights his teaching and research career and recognizes his work in promoting the chip and microelectronics industry. It also highlights his contribution to the development of the ULPGC with the creation of the ETS of Telecommunications Engineering and the University Institute of Applied Microelectronics.
